Tip Tips From Celeb Colourist, Tracey Cunningham

When you’re the hair colourist for celebrities such as Jennifer Lopez, Khloe Kardashian, Drew Barrymore, and Mariah Carey, it’s fair to say that you’ve got the gift of the gab. That’s why we’re sharing the top hair colour tips from Hollywood’s go-to celebrity colourist, Tracey Cunningham.

Here’s what you need to do to get brilliant hair:

  • Natural

Tracey advises that keeping your hair colour as close to what your hair colour was when you were a child, is the best way to enhance your looks today. Natural colours are more elegant and easier to create. However, if you’re one for trying new things, there’s no harm in going with your gut instinct. Whether it’s bright pink or beautiful blonde, you’ll be able to own what you feel comfortable with.

  • Maintenance

It’s all well and good to make the bold statement and change your hair colour, but

Tracey stresses the importance of maintaining that colour to get the most out it. For example, when you decide you want to go bleach-blonde, will you be able to regularly maintain the growing roots? Or if you want rose-red low-lights, will you be able to maintain the colour when your hair grows? Therefore, simple colours, the celebrity stylist suggests, are the best choice.

  • Bring a pic

Next time you go to your Melbourne hair salon, remember to do this: Tracey Cunningham suggests that you bring a picture/photo with you of the precise colour you want. The reason for this is that, with her vast experience, she’s discovered the colour her client wants is not always the colour she envisions. That’s why it’s a good thing to bring the colour you want so that your colourist matches it perfectly.

  • Red or Auburn, please explain

When the Hollywood stylist was asked about the problems she has encountered over the years, she mentioned the “red vs auburn” question. Often, she encounters clients who want red hair. What she advises in this instance is to sit down and work out what type of red you want. Auburn is often confused with red, or the other way around.

Remember that the most important take-away from Tracey’s great advice is to be yourself. We always maintain that being yourself may also mean experimenting and expressing yourself in unique ways, which can still look absolutely fabulous.
